Software adds richer features to Bluetooth audio module
The new Bluegiga WT32i Bluetooth audio module, available now at Solid State Supplies, is Bluetooth Classic 3.0 compliant and comes with Bluegiga’s latest iWRAP6 software featuring enhanced audio capabilities and additional Bluetooth profiles. Superseding the successful WT32, the new WT32i with iWRAP6 includes 13 Bluetooth audio profiles and also offers options such as an aptX audio codec, AAC codecs for enhanced stereo audio streaming, and CVC echo and noise cancellation for hands-free voice applications.
The Bluetooth audio profiles include Advanced Audio Distribution Profile, Audio Visual Remote Control Profile 1.5, Hands-Free Profile 1.6 with Wideband speech, and Headset Profile.
All modules implement the Serial Port Profile (SPP) for data communications with devices such as Android-based smartphones and tablets or Windows Mobile devices.
An optional version of iWRAP6 that supports Apple iAP1 and iAP2 for data and combined data/audio applications with iOS devices is available for Apple MFI licensees only.
The WT32i is pin compatible with the WT32 for easy design migration. The module contains CSR’s BlueCore5-Multimedia single-chip radio and baseband IC, a 26MHz crystal, internal reset circuitry, a balanced filter, 16Mbit Flash memory, and the optional internal antenna. A built-in battery charger is also provided.
The module presents a UART host interface and has audio interfaces including analogue, I2S, and an IEC60958 digital audio interface that supports AES/EBU and SPDIF standards. 10 software-programmable I/O pins are provided.
As a cost-effective, full-featured Bluetooth audio module, designed to allow substantially easier integration than similar solutions on the market, the WT32i is ideal for wireless stereo speakers and sound bars, hi-fi equipment, hands-free kits, and stereo headsets.
Basing a new design on the WT32i brings the advantage of comprehensive approvals including Bluetooth end-product certification, CE mark, US FCC part 15 and Industry Canada qualifications, and KCC and MIC certifications applicable in Korea and Japan.
