Gowanda Electronics announces the introduction of the world’s smallest non-magnetic molded RF inductor series, SMG1812. This new surface mount wirewound series will be featured at MD&M-East 2013, a medical device industry conference and trade show being held June 18 - 20, 2013 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA. Visit Gowanda Electronics at booth #2836.
The dimensions of the new SMG1812 are 4.8 mm (length) x 3.4 mm (width) x 3.5 mm (height). The overall size is more than 40% smaller than Gowanda’s SMG3013 series (the industry’s smallest non-magnetic molded RF inductor series until now). Gowanda’s development of smaller inductor designs is in response to the ongoing market trend for smaller devices and therefore smaller components.

Inductors (in their role as filters) block certain frequencies that otherwise would compromise the performance of equipment or devices. Gowanda’s SMG1812 was designed specifically for applications that are magnetically sensitive and therefore require non-magnetic components. Relevant applications include test equipment & devices and medical diagnostic equipment – specifically imaging equipment such as MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and particular types of X-ray equipment.

Technical specifications of the SMG1812 series include Inductance from 0.010 to 0.082 µH, Q min from 35 to 40, SRF Min from 750 to 1000 MHz, DCR Max from 0.1 to 0.25 Ohms, and Current Rating DC from 700 to 1230 mA. A RoHS-compliant (“lead-free”) version is available and is denoted SMG1812LF.

It is anticipated that this new series from Gowanda will be used not only in the medical industry but also in a wide variety of market applications and industries where magnetic materials and magnetic characteristics must be avoided. These other applications could include use in telecommunications, security systems, instrumentation, laboratory analysis equipment, aviation equipment, navigation equipment and electronic test equipment.

The new SMG1812 series expands Gowanda’s non-magnetic “MG” inductor product line. Inductors manufactured using traditional methods can exhibit magnetic characteristics that are undesirable in certain applications. Gowanda’s SMG1812 components (and the other series in the MG product line) are manufactured using a proprietary company-developed methodology that assures the inductors have non-magnetic characteristics.

Other members of Gowanda’s RF inductor “MG” product line include additional surface mount versions and through-hole leaded designs. Technical specifications for these other non-magnetic series include: Inductance options from 0.01 to 4.7 µH, DCR Max from 0.08 to 2.6 Ohms, and Current Ratings DC from 260 to 3835 mA. RoHS-compliant versions are also available. Surface Mount Designs: SMG3013, SMG5025; Thru-Hole Designs: 10MG, 15MG.
