Precise time synchronisation
OMICRON Lab’s antenna-integrated Precision Time Protocol (PTP) Grandmaster Clock OTMC 100 ensures precise time synchronisation of intelligent electronic devices, measurement equipment and computers connected to Ethernet networks. By utilising the PTP according to IEEE 1588-2011, synchronisation accuracies in the sub-microsecond range can be reached.
The OTMC 100’s unique design directly integrates the PTP Grandmaster clock together with the GPS antenna and the GPS receiver in one compact, weatherproof outdoor device. Due to this innovative concept the OTMC 100 can be directly connected to the Ethernet network. This results in several application advantages. No RF antenna cable, like required in conventional time synchronisation systems, is needed. The cable length between the OTMC 100 and the nearest Ethernet switch can be up to 100m with a standard Ethernet cable, by using optical fibres this distance can be extended up to 3km. No matter what method is used, the propagation delay between the OTMC 100 and the Ethernet switch is always automatically compensated.
To ensure the possibility to time synchronise also non-PTP compliant equipment, the OTMC 100 can work as a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server in parallel. As a result the OTMC 100 provides a future proof solution for time synchronisation networks that are operated with NTP at the moment and need to be upgraded to PTP in the future.
All parameters and settings can be easily applied via a secure, intuitive and platform independent web interface.
The OTMC 100 is powered over Ethernet and due to its extremely low power consumption the operational costs are significantly lower than it would be for a standard rack mounted device.
Due to its compact size and low weight, the OTMC 100 is also perfectly suitable for portable use. It is an excellent solution to time synchronise PTP compliant measurement equipment and sensors for in-field measurements as well as for temporary installations.
