Pentek introduces wideband software radio module
Pentek introduces the Onyx Model 71730, the newest member of its highly popular Onyx family of high-speed data converter XMC FPGA modules. A single channel, 1 GHz 12-bit A/D, 1 GHz 16-bit D/A module, the Onyx Model 71730 is based on the high density Xilinx Virtex-7 FPGA. Supporting signal bandwidths up to 400 MHz, the Model 71730 can receive and transmit at the same sampling rate.
Bob Sgandurra, director of Product Development of Pentek, commented: “The Model 71730 appeals to customers that need the wider symmetrical bandwidth for both input and output signals. In combination with the Virtex-7 FPGA, additional memory and the PCIe Gen 3 interface, this Onyx board offers the performance that many wideband communications systems require.”
Onyx architecture boosts performance
The Onyx architecture has been enhanced. These include: doubling the DDR3 memory in both size and speed to 4 GB and 1600 MHz; upgrading the PCIe interface to Gen 3 (which delivers peak transfer rates of up to 8 GB/sec); the Virtex-7 is more power efficient than previous generations (this makes it easier to utilize larger FPGAs); and optional LVDS and gigabit serial connections to the Virtex-7 FPGA are available for connecting to custom high performance I/O.
Tools and support
An ideal turn-key interface for radar, communications or general data acquisition applications, the Model 71730 comes preconfigured with a suite of built-in functions for data capture, synchronization, time tagging and formatting. Featuring an A/D acquisition intellectual property module and a sophisticated D/A waveform playback IP module, the Model 71730 allows for easy capture and data moving, and play back of waveforms from on-board memory or the PCI Express interface. These modules greatly enhance the functionality of the Model 71730 and reduce the development time and effort to module deployment.
Software support packages are available for Linux and Windows operating systems.
Form factors
Designed for air-cooled, conduction-cooled, and rugged operating environments, the Model 71730 XMC module is available as a 3U / 6U Compact PCI (Models 73720/74720), 3U VPX (Model 52720), PCIe (Model 78720) and AMC (Model 56720).
Pricing and availability
The Model 71730 XMC module with 4 GB of memory starts at $19,495 USD. Additional FPGA options are available. Delivery is 8 to 10 weeks ARO.
