NuWaves Engineering has announced a linear BiDirectional Amplifier (BDA) for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) radios at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) Trade Show. The NuPower Xtender 12E06A model is a broadband, small, lightweight, cost-effective solution for high-performance S-band OFDM transceivers with Mobile Ad hoc Networking (MANET) and/or MIMO technology.

The Xtender 12E06A bidirectional amplifier operates across the 1980 to 2500MHz range and generates 12W of RF power for QPSK modulated signals, 6.3W for 16QAM, and 2.5W for 64QAM. With 25dB of RF transmit gain and 12dB of receive gain, the Xtender 12E06A bidirectional amplifier is designed to operate seamlessly with several commercially-available OFDM transceivers.

At 10.16x5.08x1.65cm, the bidirectional amplifier’s ruggedised aluminium chassis is compact, and light enough for integration into a wide variety of small aerial, sea and ground-based platforms, including Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (SUAS).

“The Xtender 12E06A is a high-performance, robust solution to extend the range of S-band OFDM radios, which are increasingly popular in military and government applications,” said Ryan Canning, Director of Business Development, NuWaves Engineering. “We’re building on a successful track record of developing and fielding miniature RF power amplifiers for the most demanding customers in the world.”
