GNSS receiver module is reliable in any environment
The SAM-M8Q Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver module from u-blox is now available at Alpha Micro. The module’s tiny 15.5mm land grid array (LGA) surface-mount package, containing an integrated wide-band antenna, makes it an ideal all-in-one module for developers with limited radio frequency (RF) and antenna design experience.
The 72-channel receiver handles up to three separate satellite navigation networks simultaneously, with support for systems including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and GAGAN.
The u-blox SAM-M8Q is suitable for almost any application where cost-effectiveness, low power consumption and robust performance are desired.
Typical applications include asset tracking and vehicle tracking, as well as general automotive use and other telematics systems.
“The SAM-M8Q is a complete location solution, designed to be simple to add to your product design and easy to integrate into an automated manufacturing process, even if you’re less familiar with radio frequency devices. It’s a versatile device that accepts a wide voltage supply range and copes very well with interference. It delivers reliable and accurate positional data over a huge temperature range, thanks to its onboard temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO),” said Tim Bonnett, Director at Alpha Micro Components.
For greater reliability in all conditions, the SAM-M8Q includes signal discrimination, spoofing detection and anti-jamming features.
These include two Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), an additional Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) band pass filter and active continuous wave (CW) removal. Among other benefits, these features make the SAM-M8Q highly resistant to high-frequency interference from devices such as mobile phones. The omni-directional nature of the antenna design provides maximum versatility for module-positioning and end-product installation.
