Digital radio ICs support worldwide AM/FM HD radio
Supporting AM, FM, FM RDS, AM/FM HD Radio, DAB and DAB+ global standards, Silicon Labs has expanded its Si468x digital radio IC family with variants for AM and AM HD Radio. The receivers suit portable and consumer electronics devices such as tabletop and clock radios, boom boxes, mini/micro audio systems, home theatre systems, docking stations, mobile phones, tablets and personal media players.
Integrating the RF tuner, baseband and audio processing circuitry on a single die, the Si4685 and Si4689 receivers require a minimal BOM, reduce system complexity, ease validation and testing and improve reliability and manufacturability. Supporting auto-calibrated digital tuning and AM/FM seek functionality based on multiple signal quality and band parameters, the receivers provide advanced audio processing such as configurable AM/FM soft mute, FM stereo-mono blend and AM/FM hi-cut filtering. According to Silicon Labs, the devices deliver superior RF performance compared to existing digital radio solutions.
Silicon Labs has claimed that the Si468x ICs are the most cost-effective single-chip digital radio receivers available that support worldwide radio reception and are certified for the Digital Radio Tick Mark and AM/FM HD Radio. They have also claimed that the receivers are the industry’s first monolithic, CMOS-based antenna-input-to-audio-output digital radio ICs. One of a few select receiver technologies approved by Digital Radio UK (DRUK) for the Digital Tick Mark, consumers can be assured of the quality of their radios and their readiness for digital radio reception. Pre-certified by iBiquity, designers can use the Si468x ICs to develop and certify HD Radio products in the shortest timeframe possible.
The Si468x digital radio receiver ICs are available now from $5.28 in 10,000 unit quantities. Silicon Labs also offers the Si468x-QFN-EVB (FM/FM-HD/DAB/DAB+) and Si4689-QFN-EVB (AM/FM/HD/DAB/DAB+) evaluation boards for $550.
