  Enhancing viewing experiences on UHD (Ultra-High Definition) displays, Altera has revealed that the company's Arria V FPGAs provide the processing and compression performance needed for Dolby Vision imaging technology.

To enable the operation of it's documentary-style camera, ARRI have utilised Altera's Stratix V FPGA and Enpirion PowerSoC DC/DC converter. These products contribute to the AMIRA camera's ergonomic design which is optimised for single-operator use. With the Stratix V FPGA, the AMIRA camera features the same sensor and image quality as the ARRI ALEXA camera, but at up to 200fps. 

To enable 4k60p video, Inrevium’s Xilinx-targeted FMC has utilised MACOM’s 12G-SDI Chipset. Supporting the 12G-SDI standard, the FMC quadruples the video throughput and processing that can be achieved on a single card. The FMC, which was developed with Fidus Systems, will be exhibited by MACOM at IBC 2014 in booth 8.C01 (Hall 8) of the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre in Amsterdam.

It has been announced that Maxim Integrated Products will be the lead supplier of three of Xilinx's FPGA reference designs. Plans for a military temperature (Mil Temp) qualification for Altera's 20nm Arria 10 FPGAs and SoCs has been announced. The devices will be qualified for extreme temperature environments (-55C to 125C ambient), alongside the production of guidelines on speed grades, protocols, and external memory interfaces best suited to specific applications.

The SmartFusion2 SoC FPGA and IGLOO2 FPGA, manufactured by Microsemi, has completed the NSA's IAD (Information Assurance Directorate) SIG (Secure Implementation Guidelines) document. These families, the company claims, are the only FPGAs to have completed this.

A rugged DSP and FPGA based card from CommAgility is now shipping. The VPX-D16A4, the company's first board in the compact VITA 65, 3U OpenVPX form factor, features a wide operating temperature range of -40-+70°C. The card is based on Texas Instrument's (TI) TCI6638K2K KeyStone-based SoC and TMS320C6678 SoC, both of which contain 16 C66x DSP cores and four ARM Cortex-A15 cores.

Enabling engineers to quickly implement optical Ethernet designs up to 100Gbps, Lattice Semiconductor has released a reference design for IEEE 802.3 Management Data Input/Output (MDIO) interface controllers. RD1194 allows designers to implement a simple Wishbone user logic interface that enables the user to access the PHY registers.

A patent license extension, for the secure booting of third-party processors and FPGAs, has been obtained by Microsemi for its Differential Power Analysis (DPA). The DPA license has been obtained from the Cryptography Research division of Rambus, and allows Microsemi to use the Cryptography Research portfolio of patented breakthrough DPA countermeasures.
