UBM-free WLCSP technology targets MAX 10 FPGAs
An UBM-free WLCSP technology that provides enhanced quality, reliability and integration for Altera’s MAX 10 FPGA products has been developed by Altera and TSMC. This approach results in a thin package height of less than 0.5mm (including solder ball), which is suitable for applications where space is at a premium.
FPGAs withstand radiation without configuration scrubbing
Microsemi has announced the RTG4 high-speed signal processing radiation-tolerant FPGA family. The RTG4’s reprogrammable flash technology offers complete immunity to radiation-induced configuration upsets in the harshest radiation environments, requiring no configuration scrubbing, unlike SRAM FPGA technology. RTG4 supports space applications requiring up to 150,000 logic elements and up to 300MHz of system performance.
Custom video processor suite enables field applications
As high resolution cameras and displays spread to medical, AV, events, military and telecomms applications, the need for practical, real world video processing solutions has grown. Simultaneously, FPGA processing capacity has grown to allow more ambitious designs. Omnitek provides off-the-shelf and bespoke designs for video equipment manufacturers, allowing them to focus on USPs without needing expensive R&D teams.
FPGA-based solutions provide intelligent vision
Based on Eutecus' MVE video and fusion analytics technology and Altera’s Cyclone V SoC and Enpirion PowerSoC devices, Altera and Eutecus announce the ReCo-Pro Multi-channel HD Video Analytics platform for intelligent lighting, traffic monitoring and building security.
IF relay XMC modifies up to 34 signals
An adaptive IF relay XMC with a Virtex-6 FPGA has been introduced by Pentek. The 71624, which expands the company’s Cobalt line, accepts two IF analogue input channels, modifies up to 34 signals, and then delivers them to two analogue IF outputs. Any signal within each IF band can be independently enabled or disabled, and changed in both frequency and amplitude as it passes through the module.
Altera to demo 200 & 400G OTN solutions at OFC 2015
In booth #413 at OFC 2015, March 24th to 26th In Los Angeles, Altera is demonstrating two products for optical transport networks designed with Arria 10 FPGAs: the Altera SoftSilicon 400G Transponder/Muxponder (TPO516) and the Altera SoftSilicon single-chip 20-channel any-rate mapper (TPOC226) with segmentation and reassembly.
SoC & FPGA combine to offer performance & low power
Altera has announced its 2nd gen family of Arria 10 SoCs, the industry’s only programmable devices that combine ARM processors with a 20nm FPGA fabric. Arria 10 SoCs bring across-the-board improvements to enable higher performing, lower power, and more feature rich embedded systems compared to previous generation SoC FPGAs.
Functional safety design flow speeds IEC61508 certification
Lattice Semiconductor has introduced a functional safety design flow solution which enables users to simplify and speed up the IEC61508 safety certification process for safety-critical applications using Lattice FPGAs. Certified by TÜV-Rheinland, the solution enables engineers to adhere to latest safety design methodology, save time and reduce costs.
Compact embedded module combines CPU & FPGA
DAVE Embedded Systems will unveil BORA Xpress, a Dual ARM Cortex-A9 + FPGA CPU module, based on the Xilinx Zynq XC7Z015/XC7Z030 application processor, from 24th to 26th February 2015 at Embedded World 2015, Nuremberg, hall 4, stand 481. BORA Xpress is suitable for applications such as medical instrumentation, advanced communication systems, critical real-time operations and safety.
FPGAs achieve 40GFLOPS-per-Watt in cloud data centre acceleration
Microsoft is using Altera's Arria 10 FPGAs, to achieve compelling performance-per-Watt in data centre acceleration based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) algorithms, which are frequently used for image classification, image recognition and natural language processing.
