Cypress Semiconductor Corp today announced that ZTE, the world’s fourth-leading provider of mobile phones , has selected the TrueTouch Gen4 solution from Cypress to implement the touchscreen for its initial Nubia brand smartphone. The new top-of-the-line Nubia Z5 uses the Gen4 solution to power its dynamic five-inch, 1080-pixel multi-touch touchscreen display. Gen4 delivers leading signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to limit noise interference and provide the Nubia Z5 with accurate performance in any operating environment. Gen4 also offers best-in-class waterproofing capability, enabling accurate touch input and finger tracking in the presence of moisture from rain, condensation, or sweat.
The Nubia Z5 is an Android phone operating on 4G LTE networks that packs a quad-core CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel camera into its 7.6-mm ultra-thin body. TrueTouch Gen4 provides the phone with a Charger Armor™ feature that enables operation in the presence of very noisy chargers. The TrueTouch solution’s built-in waterproofing functionality delivers another unique feature, as it allows mobile electronics to meet IP-67 standards without extra sealants or shield layers.

“The TrueTouch solution provides the performance and differentiating features we wanted for the launch of our top-end Nubia brand,” said Gao Dakun, Director of Marketing for the Nubia line. “Cypress’s team in China offered great support on the project to help us realize our vision for the Nubia Z5 and bring it to market.”

“We are very pleased to work with a recognized leader such as ZTE to launch the Nubia Z5 as the flagship of their new brand,” said John Carey, Senior Director of TrueTouch Marketing at Cypress . “Our TrueTouch Gen4 line offers industry-leading noise immunity to ensure flawless multi-touch tracking performance, and the solution’s waterproofing capability is unmatched.”
