Displays offer gesture control for industrial environments

Offering projected capacitive touch functionality and crystal-clear visual clarity, the AA150XT11-PCAP and AA190EA01-PCAP displays have been introduced by Mitsubishi Electric. The 15" XGA and 19" SXGA colour TFT-LCD displays both provide a high contrast ratio of 800:1, an excellent luminance of 1.200cd/m2, and up to 16.7m colours.

Operating over a temperature range from -20 to +70°C, the displays are suitable for use in harsh industrial environments. The integrated touch panel controller is equipped with a UART and a USB interface, while a 6/8-bit LVDS interface is used to supply image information top the screens. Supported operating systems include Windows 7 and Linux 3.0. Others are available on request. Additional features such as as Black mask printing as well as Strengthend, Low-Reflection and Anti-Smudge treatment of the cover glass are also available.

Capacitive touch technology uses two perpendicular layers of conductive material to form a grid which, when a current is applied, forms a uniform electrostatic field. Enabling the system to accurately track movement across the screen at multiple points, the touch of a finger or other conductive object will distort this field. Commonly used for smartphones and tablets, this technology is increasingly being used for innovative user interfaces in industrial applications.

The colour TFT-LCD display modules are RoHS compliant and mercury-free. The modules will be on display at embedded world 2014 in Nürnberg, Germany, in Hall 1, Booth 1-181.
