andersDX’s new UI platform enables quickest and easiest implementation of graphics rich, colour, touch interfaces
andersDX has launched an embedded display platform that significantly reduces the cost and time overhead of upgrading existing mono interfaces or implementing new product designs with high-performance next generation colour, touch interfaces. DX1 is the perfect development path for small-to-medium volume, non-consumer device makers who prefer to focus in-house resources on core application development.
New andersDX’s new ‘DX1’ series of embedded displays provides a ‘drop-in’ solution for integrating small, touch TFTs with outstanding optical performance, multiple interfacing options and support for graphic primitives
The DX1 platforms comprise carefully selected long-lifetime availability, optically advanced colour TFTs, pre-integrated with different touch options and all necessary driving electronics, backlight drivers and power supplies, to ensure optimal graphics performance. The mechanical and electrical integration overhead has been kept to a minimum through convenient mounting holes and multiple options for interfacing to the main application board.
Combining an 80MHz ARM processor and 1MB of serial Flash for user data storage such as commands, macros, images and font files, the DX1 can connect to a device host processor via I2C, SPI, serial or RS485 interface. The DX1 platform also incorporates two channels of 10 Bit A/D which can be used for interfacing analogue signals and a PWM and GPIO’s for controlling external peripherals.
A complementary GUI software suite enables quick design and development of different applications screens. These screens are then called on through an in-built command interpreter, whilst an ‘instant start’ capability provides a boot time of less than one second.
DX1 initially features a high performance 3.5” QVGA TFT, available in either portrait or landscape mode. The display offers an impressive ultra-wide viewing angle of 150°, left to right, with excellent optical clarity, high colour saturation, 450 cd/m2 brightness and extended operating temperatures of
-30°C to +85°C. This makes it ideal for a host of medical, industrial and military applications, all of which will also benefit from a minimum five-year availability. A range of additional sizes will be launched over the coming months.
Whilst the standard DX-1 offers a traditional 4-wire resistive touchscreen, users are encouraged to further optimise product performance by leveraging the andersDX FlushTouch front panel design service or by selecting a PCAP touch option, with their choice of coverlens.
“DX-1 comes after four years of listening to customer needs,” says Paul Mullen, andersDX ‘Global Sales Director’. “Simple and easy to integrate, with excellent optical and graphics performance, long-term availability and value-add options to enhance the overall User Experience, this will be one of our most successful embedded displays yet.”
