Wet surfaces no problem for resistive multi-touch controller
PenMount is a Resistive Multi-Touch Controller from RDS that allows users to operate touch screens even when the surface is covered in water, blood, saline or sea-water yet it still supports two-point or multi-point operation.
It is also unaffected by a noisy environment.
Existing resistive touch and projected (PCAP) touch products have many advantages.
Resistive products are well established with a working principle that relies on pressure, it is also unaffected by water and noise interference and offers a stable touch operation.
The disadvantage is that they could only support single touch operation.
On the other hand, PCAP touch products have the ability to recognise more than two touch signals but may produce false touch signals when affected by noise and water.
This new Resistive Multi-touch Controller allows users to operate touch screens even when the touch surface is covered in water, blood, saline, sea water, but also when the system is in an environment filled with low-frequency high-voltage noise.
It also supports two-finger pan, zoom, and rotate gestures featured in Windows OS and Android OS which broadens its range of applications.
In addition, the PenMount RMT touch controller can be used with a stylus and supports operation with thick gloves.
Firmware for the PenMount PM6601 is available.
RMT Touch Panel aspect ratios can be broken down into 16:9 and 4:3 and further divided into long side line-out or short side line-out.
But with this Firmware, support is provided for switching between different types of panels.
The Firmware also internally saves calibration values for use during firmware update and function diagnosis through read commands.
