Arrow has announced the availability of a three-phase motor drive application kit that provides all of the hardware and software needed to rapidly develop energy-efficient variable speed motion control designs based on motors with ratings to 750W.
Developed by Infineon, the new application kit can be used as a reference platform for both PMSM (permanent magnet synchronous motor) and induction motor applications. As a result, it is set to significantly simplify motion control implementation in applications ranging from home appliances to industrial pumps and fans.

The kit’s hardware is built around Infineon’s XC886 8-bit microcontroller, and CIPOS™, an Intelligent Power Module (IPM) that provides a high level of system integration. An onboard power supply based on Infineon COOLSET™ technology provides quick start-up, while integrated protection features ensure high system availability.

Software incorporated in the kit includes optimised sensorless field orientated control (FOC) software for PMSM designs and source code for voltage and frequency control of induction motors. A real-time control and monitoring tool, a USB-CAN bridge and a free tool chain including SDCC compiler and IDE are also supplied, as is software for fast Flash programming via JTAG.

Designed for FOC applications, the Infineon 8-bit XC886 provides 16-bit motor control with inbuilt vector computing. A powerful motor control peripheral set includes CAPCOM6 and a 10-bit ADC. The CIPOS single inline IPM is a fully isolated package incorporating TrenchStop™ IGBTs with a low VCEsat of 1.6V at 25°C. The auxiliary Coolset™ power supply integrates PWM and protection control with a high voltage power MOSFET.
