Broadcom has revealed that D-Link has selected its highly integrated StrataGX processor and 5G WiFi  Enterprise system-on-a-chip for its new 11AC Wi-Fi enterprise access point. Broadcom's StrataGX Series and 5G WiFi SoCs deliver a substantial increase in bandwidth to the enterprise, allowing multiple users to simultaneously stream and download content 10x faster than legacy wireless networks.

Increased reliance on wireless networks, the explosion of video consumption and emergence of bring-your-own-device in the enterprise is placing tremendous stress on legacy wireless networks. Broadcom's StrataGX processor coupled with 5G WiFi, based on the IEEE 802.11ac standard, allows D-Link to address these challenges, providing robust bandwidth, enhanced reliability and advanced security features.

"By integrating Broadcom's SoCs into its new access points, D-Link has increased processing power up to 10x while significantly reducing power consumption. This allows D-Link to deliver bandwidth-intensive content over a wireless network to more devices than ever before, providing better quality of service throughout the enterprise," adds Ed Redmond, Vice President and General Manager of Compute and Connectivity at Broadcom.

Key features of the StrataGX BCM5301x Series:

  • Advanced dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor,
  • Integrated Gigabit Ethernet switch and 10/100/1000 PHYs,
  • High speed PCIe Gen 2, USB2.0 and USB3.0 system connectivity,
  • DDR3 memory interface at up to 800 MHz.

Key features of the 5G WiFi BCM43460 Enterprise SoC:

  • Dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) IEEE 802.11ac draft 3 x 3 compliant MAC/PHY/Radio complete SoC,
  • Multiple Input Multiple Output technology doubles spectral efficiency,
  • Fully integrated dual-band radio transceiver supports 3 x 3 antennas for date rates up to 1.3 Gbps,
  • Explicit Transmit beamforming for best in class rate versus range performance for mobile clients.

ML Jean, Associate Vice President, D-Link Switch and Security Product Division, commented: "Already the leader in consumer 802.11ac, D-Link is now leading the same transition to 11ac in the enterprise, as high-bandwidth content and mobile cloud data migration increase demand for high-speed wireless access to centralized wired Gigabit speed networks. Broadcom's latest wireless SoCs for the enterprise in addition to D-Link's advanced tools for deployment and management of Unified Wireless Solutions provide the connectivity required by a growing unwired workforce."

Availability

Broadcom StrataGX BCM5301x Series and BCM43460 5G WiFi SoCs are now available. D-Link expects to be sampling 11AC Wi-Fi access points based on Broadcom's StrataGX and 5G WiFi SoCs to enterprise OEMs in 2H13.
