Coinciding with Thread Group’s introduction of its product certification programme, Freescale Semiconductor announces the availability of a Thread pre-certified software stack optimised for Freescale products. The stack is currently moving through Thread’s certification programme, and will be among the first to receive official Thread certification later this month.

With the early availability of this software stack, together with Freescale’s unmatched portfolio of Thread-ready MCUs, applications processors, sensors, integrated connectivity solutions and enablement resources, more than half of all products and components incorporating Thread and currently submitted for Thread product certification are based on Freescale silicon.

As a founder and sponsor member of Thread Group, Freescale is playing a vital role in the development, testing and advancement of the Thread mesh networking protocol. The company is collaborating on Thread-based development initiatives with a broad range of customers and partners including worldwide consumer goods company Procter & Gamble, as well as leading engineering manufacturing services provider Jabil, which is developing a Thread border router hardware solution based on Freescale’s i.MX 6UltraLite ARM Cortex-A7-based processor and Kinetis KW2x ARM Cortex-M4-based wireless MCU.

In addition to collaborating on Thread-related initiatives with industry giants, Freescale also works closely with a broad array of promising IoT startup companies including Elarm and Ubiant, both of which were named Thread Group Innovation Enablers with products leveraging Freescale technology. Thread Group established the Innovation Enablers program to spotlight and assist pre-series A funded startups committed to creating innovative new products which incorporate Thread mesh network technology.

“Freescale’s support for the Thread protocol is complemented by its exceptionally deep portfolio of products, which includes silicon and software for the creation of virtually all elements of a Thread network,” said Emmanuel Sambuis, MCU Portfolio Director, Freescale’s MCU group. “Freescale offers the technologies essential to creating a Thread network - from IoT end-nodes to border routers to internet connectivity.”
