In order to monitor industrial PCs and embedded systems, DSM Computer offers the DSMP2 hardware monitoring program. Running under the Microsoft Windows operating system, the software makes it possible to permanently monitor various hardware sensors, such as for the temperature and the fan speed, using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

When defined threshold values are exceeded, DSMP2 can issue SNMP traps. The hardware monitoring program provides early detection of computer malfunctions when deployed in the industrial environment. It will also initiate appropriate response measures immediately, significantly increasing the reliability and fault tolerance of the systems. Thanks to a status-oriented maintenance which minimises system downtime, this increased reliability can greatly reduce costs.

Designed for Microsoft Windows XP/7/8/Server 2008/Embedded 7 (and later), DSMP2 allows any monitoring program, such as Nagios, Icinga, HP OpenView and Microsoft Operations Manager, to be deployed as a central server. SNMP is used to display all detected hardware sensors with their name, current value, average value and management information.

The agent updates all values in a parameterised interval: if the average value of the sensors defined for the hardware monitoring over- or undershoots the threshold value, an SNMP trap will be issued. Two levels are possible: warning and critical. The program allows the monitoring of system-critical parameters, including the temperature of the processor, the mainboard and the hard disks as well as the speed of the various fans installed in the computer. DSMP2 enables the initiation and reset values of the traps to be individually set, as well as the SNMP traps to be very precisely controlled. Additionally, it is possible to test the system with special values rather than the real values without needing to change the threshold values.

The DSMP2 software can be downloaded without charge from DSM Computer's home page.
