Windows Embedded Compact 7 is the long-awaited successor to Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6, and includes a host of new features and improvements.
The improvements range from wide-ranging performance enhancements such as multi-core SMP CPU and ARM v7 instruction set support, and updates to key communication technologies, through to more immediately visible improvements such as a greatly enhanced browser and RemoteFX thin and zero client technology.

As one of the earliest members of the Compact 7 beta program, MPC Data have been investing heavily in Compact 7 over the last year. This ensures that they are able to continue to provide customers with world-class support on this important new technology, as well as being able to offer off the shelf board support packages (BSPs) at the point that Compact 7 is launched. MPC Data’s training portfolio has also been updated to include Compact 7 training at both platform and applications level.

Alan Rowe, Windows Embedded Group Director at MPC Data states “Many of our customers are already planning to upgrade to Compact 7, and as a leading Windows Embedded systems integrator and Microsoft Gold Partner we have worked hard to ensure that we can hit the ground running with these new technologies and have early preview packages available for those customers wishing to adopt this new embedded OS. This year at Embedded World I was particularly excited to be demonstrating the very latest RemoteFX technology based on WEC7 – MPC Data has been working closely with Texas instruments and Microsoft to create production-ready RFX platforms on ARM-based devices.”

The first readily downloadable BSPs will be available in early Q2, however beta versions are available now for customers wishing to get their designs started today.

Neville Bulsara, MPC Data’s Business Development Manager, states “An off the shelf BSP is the key to getting to market faster in this ‘buy not build’ age. Not only that but a quality BSP allowing you to get the most out of a devices peripherals with robust and optimised drivers is key to establishing a stable development platform. MPC Data are committed to providing access to their skill base – offering professional engineering services for customised BSPs, drivers and application frameworks – as well as providing readily available products for download for common platforms such as the Beagleboard and BeagleboardXM”.
