LynxOS-178 RTOS used for Superjet flight system
Lynx Software Technologies and its’ Russian distributor RTSoft, have announced that its LynxOS-178 RTOS is being used in a flight system of the Sukhoi Superjet 100, designed by Ulyanovsk Instrument Manufacturing Design Bureau (UIMDB).
LynxOS is the first and only COTS OS to receive acceptance for reusability from the FAA for DO-178B certification and acceptance for reusability by European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on this project represents a further milestone.
“We have been cooperating very closely with Lynx for many years and have established deep expertise in LynxOS-178 and the certification of products based on LynxOS-178 according to DO-178B,” said Alexey Isaev, Chief of ECT software direction, RTSoft. “The FAA’s acceptance of the LynxOS-178 Reusable Software Component was a key factor in the decision by UIMDB to adopt this technology. We are delighted to have contributed to the successful deployment of LynxOS-178 on a very significant commercial airliner.”
Sergey Zhelepov, Onboard Software Verification Group Leader, UIMDB, said, “We are always seeking to reduce the time and effort involved in certification, which adds greatly to the development risk and cost in each project. OS represent tens of thousands of lines of code and the fact that LynxOS-178 is already certified as a Reusable Software Component made a big difference to the speed with which we were able to execute on this project.”
“The fact that the FAA has granted acceptance of the LynxOS-178 RSC has enabled many of our customers to attain DO-178B certification and benefit from the reduced cost, reduced effort and reduced risk of an RSC-based certification process”, said Lee Cresswell, EMEA Sales Director, Lynx. "Acceptance of the RSC by the EASA will enable manufacturers such as UIMDB to certify their airborne systems within the European regulatory framework and reap the same benefits.”
