The SBX-iGLX embedded computing platform from Anders Electronics combines a PC/104+ modular architecture with CAN bus connectivity, Ethernet connections, PCMCIA and CardBus interfaces to deliver flexible expansion options for industrial applications. Using the new platform, developers can create cost-effective and compact embedded computer configurations with feature sets tailored precisely to their needs.
Use of the PC/104+ modular architecture gives designers access to a huge range of industrial expansion hardware in both PCI and ISA formats, while electrical interfaces and slots for PCMCIA and CardBus extension cards can be used to add features such as wireless (GSM or 3G) modems, GPS receivers, WLAN interfaces and solid state disks. Cards are automatically secured in the slot, so that no additional mechanical parts are required.

An extended variant is also available, 15mm longer than a standard PC/104 card, but making standard USB, VGA and Ethernet connectors available for simpler connectivity.

Built around an AMD Geode LX 800, the SBX-iGLX also incorporates a CAN bus interface with integrated galvanic isolation and DC separation, RS485, and dual 100Base-T Ethernet interfaces, making it suitable for a wide range of control applications.

The SBX-iGLX is available in a version tested to operate across the full -40ºC - 85ºC industrial temperature range and offers a high MTBF rating in excess of 100,000 hours. It can be driven by a wide range of power supplies, from 3.3V up to 48V, and uses less than 6W, simplifying cooling requirements.

On-board RAM options are 128 or 256MB, and the memory is soldered rather than socketed to ensure enhanced protection against vibration. An integrated solid-state Flash disk of up to 512MB with automatic wear levelling also contributes to the SBX-iGLX’s high MTBF and suitability for the industrial environment.

Use of the x86 architecture allows the SBX-iGLX to run Linux, Windows CE or Windows XP embedded. Developers, therefore, have access to a wide range of software, commercial and open source, as well as the convenience of a familiar environment for software development and target implementation.

The SBX-iGLX provides four high speed USB 2.0 host ports, Parallel ATA IDE, TFT (including LVDS outputs) and CRT monitor interfaces, GPIO, a touch-screen controller and video input. Two serial ports are available, one of which can be equipped with RS232 / RS485 / RS422 or TTL driver options.
