With increased dependence on software, government and industry authorities are calling for improved software quality surveillance. Executives and corporations alike are now expected to prove that they have undergone due diligence in ensuring that the software they developed underwent rigorous testing and requirements verification. Because of this, many companies in industries such as medical and automotive where standards are traditionally reactive are adopting new processes that automate requirements traceability, verification and test procedures.
The ability to leverage regression test suites and scripts ensures that companies with years of in-house testing can improve their software quality processes without losing the investment and quality controls they already developed. As a task-based interface, TBmanager enables them to graphically compare and manage all components of software development whether requirements, code, test cases or documentation.

TBmanager’s ability to coordinate multiple heterogeneous language environments is a critical step forward. To optimize application development and add functionality, many companies depend on the efficiency of Java and C++ programming languages. These object-oriented languages are integrated into legacy software systems typically written in Ada or C and coexist in a heterogeneous environment. TBmanager ensures that all aspects of the code can be viewed and managed together systemically regardless of the number or type of programming languages.

“The call for increased software quality has caused companies across many industries to recognize their need to adopt improved software development processes,” noted Ian Hennell, LDRA Operations Director. “TBmanager eases that adoption, ensuring they can leverage previous test practices within multi-language applications.”

TBmanager is the task-based interface for the LDRA tool suite, providing complete control of the following LDRA modules:

• LDRA Testbed—static and dynamic analysis engine and coding standards
• TBrun—unit testing
• TBreq—requirements traceability

TBmanager’s collaboration facility supports peer review tasks by enabling a review team to comment on source code based on the LDRA tool suite’s application of coding standards such as MISRA, JSF++ AV, Cert C, and others. Comments are automatically logged and a pass/fail vote is tallied and recorded.

“Many software providers fail to recognize the importance of developer efficiency and ease-of use,” added Hennell. “This release of TBmanager indicates LDRA’s commitment to not only offer superior engineering tools, but to ease the integration of new functionality with legacy code and to create a common control and management interface between the various tools aimed at creating zero-defect software quality.”
