Embedded World Preview: Lantronix's XPort Pro Makes Low-cost Edge Computing a Reality for OEMs Across the Globe
As part of the global launch of the XPort ProT, Lantronix, Inc. (Nasdaq: LTRX), will be demonstrating the Pro's ability to provide customers with a powerful engine for deploying advanced applications at the network edge, all in an integrated, thumb-sized package at Stand 222 in Hall 12 at Embedded World 2010. Lantronix is a leading provider of secure, remote management, device networking and data centre management technologies, and the XPort Pro is the newest member of its popular XPort® family of embedded Ethernet networking and compute modules which are used in millions of devices worldwide.
As pIn addition to having the identical form factor as the original XPort, the XPort Pro's leading-edge architecture, 32-bit processing power and ample memory can handle resource-intensive applications on a single platform. These features, together with advanced networking and security features, enable machine-to-machine (M2M) edge computing with virtually unlimited customisation and application hosting potential, while providing developers with faster time-to-market and unprecedented application development options.
Daryl Miller, VP of Engineering at Lantronix, explained: A lot of time, effort and expense go into the iterative process of designing and testing of an embedded computer and networking platform. XPort Pro considerably simplifies this task, in many cases eliminating the need for other processors. With Linux on board as well, developers can focus on their core competencies to bring a product to market quickly, without having to learn a new operating system and development environment. Integrating ManageLinx VIP AccessT in the product makes it easy for designers to create solutions that work behind firewalls without the need for a VPN. We are excited about the broad range of applications made possible with XPort Pro.
XPort Pro is available running Linux and IPv6, bringing the product to a global community and providing Linux developers with a tiny, powerful compute platform, along with an industry standard development environment. XPort Pro is also available with the feature-rich Evolution OST turnkey operating system and software development kit. This product also includes Lantronix' patent-pending Virtual IP (VIP) AccessÔ technology which allows seamless integration with the company's ManageLinxÔ remote services enablement platform.
Additionally, XPort Pro provides over five times the processing power and 32 times the memory of its predecessor. It also features SSH and SSL security and encryption and supports a variety of protocol conversions.
Jerry Chase, CEO of Lantronix, commented: Our vision is to revolutionise machine networking by creating a state-of-the-art platform that allows smart services and other sophisticated applications to run on edge devices. We are very pleased with the development of XPort Pro and are delighted to be able to introduce it at Embedded World 2010.
