Efficient launches software ecosystem for general-purpose processor
Efficient Computer announced the launch of its new effcc Compiler Playground. For the first time, developers can apply for Efficient's Early Access Program for the Playground to experience the performance of the company's energy-efficient processor.
By writing – or simply copying and pasting – their own C code into the Playground, users can instantly visualise their application mapped to Efficient's general-purpose dataflow Fabric architecture, unlocking energy efficiency gains of up to 100x.
As demand for computational capability grows in areas like infrastructure intelligence, wearables, and space & defence, so does the energy consumption. Energy efficiency is increasingly vital for developers, and having the right tools to effectively measure, profile, and optimise energy use is more important than ever. Efficient's web-based Compiler Playground enables developers to experiment and innovate, concretely showcasing Efficient's energy efficiency advantage in an environment representative of the real developer experience.
"Efficient is committed to empowering developers with the tools required to push the boundaries of efficiency, while creating innovative, general-purpose computing applications, including AI," said Brandon Lucia, Co-Founder and CEO of Efficient. "The effcc Compiler Playground is a major milestone, offering an interactive first look for developers to drop in their C code and see their application mapped in the most energy efficient and performant general-purpose dataflow architecture."
In the Playground, the effcc Compiler transforms a user's code into Efficient's dataflow architecture and identifies its most efficient spatial representation for the Efficient Fabric. The Playground visualises the program's execution, to show how operations are distributed across the Fabric, illustrating the program's dataflow as it runs. The visualisation provides the developer with a detailed, inside look at how their C code will function on the Efficient processor. The Playground also offers a debugger mode, which allows the developer to see place and route at a more granular level, stepping through each cycle. Combined with the Playground's energy estimates, this release is the world's first look at the class-defining efficiency and exceptional developer experience of the Efficient processor architecture.
