Cert-Kit simplifies certification
To reduce the development cost of safety-critical applications, while speeding time-to-market, Micrium and Embedded Office have released a prepackaged RTOS Cert-Kit. The kit is suitable for industrial controls, medical applications, and transportation based on Micrium’s µC/OS-II kernel.
The Cert-Kit forms the basis of all documents required for the certification of a safety-critical product using an RTOS. Available kits include IEC61508 certification for industrial applications through SIL-3, IEC62304 certification for medical applications through Class C and EN50128 for railway applications through SIL 4.
The Cert-Kit includes the certified source code, various software manuals such as safety, target integration, user, reference and system, validation software (including reference board support package) and the TÜV certificate pertaining to the type approval.
Two Cert-Kits are available, the µC/OS-MPU Cert-Kit for CPUs with MPUs or MMUs, and the µC/OS-II Cert-Kit for hardware without memory protection. The real-time kernel is pre-certified, and therefore only compliance with the safety manual needs to be proven to obtain certification. This removes the need to understand all artifacts of a certification, reducing the time to certification.
“µC/OS-II brings tremendous competitive advantages to designers in the avionics, industrial control and medical markets,” commented Jean Labrosse, President and CEO, Micrium. “uC/OS-II is highly reliable, robust and silicon-proven for these markets, as well as certifiable for safety critical applications. The benefit of the Cert-Kits developed by Embedded Office is that they save developers considerable time and cost when seeking product certification in certain markets.”
“The µC/OS-II real-time kernel offers high reliability and has been certified many times by customers as part of their projects,” said Thomas Amann, CEO, Embedded Office. “A general certification offers a significantly faster and more cost-effective path to safety-critical certification for industrial, medical, or transportation products.”
