Renesas automotive MCU and SoC CSMS ISO/SAE certified
Renesas Electronics, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, has announced that its automotive cyber security management system (CSMS) used for the development of microcontrollers (MCU) and system on chips (SoCs) has been defined and implemented according to International Standard ISO/SAE 21434:2021.
The CSMS framework applies to Renesas’ design centre in Musashi, Japan and has been certified by TÜV Rheinland Industrie Service GmbH according to the following.
- Automotive CS management (TÜV Rheinland)
- ISO/SAE 21434 – automotive tier supplier
- ACSM (automotive cyber security management) 112: ML2: managed
The certification reaffirms Renesas’ commitment to customers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that Renesas will continue to meet its CSMS responsibilities and help car manufacturers obtain vehicle type approval as part of the recent UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) UNR155 regulation.
All Renesas automotive MCUs and SoCs which were developed after January 1, 2022, will sequentially follow this certified ISO/SAE 21434:2021 Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) development process. This includes the company’s 16-bit RL78 and 32-bit RH850 MCUs as well as its popular R-Car SoC Family.
“With this certification, validated by an independent third party, customers can have confidence that our management of the CSMS process is meeting the requirements defined by ISO/SAE 21434:2021,” said Takashi Yasumasu, Vice President of the HPC Core Technology Division at Renesas. “OEMs and Tier1 suppliers can simplify their vehicle type approval process by utilising this independent third-party certification, instead of conducting their own audits of our process.”
Renesas has made significant contributions globally to the development of the ISO/SAE 21434:2021 standard. Renesas’ commitment and dedication to cyber security extend beyond the automotive industry. In 2019, Renesas was certified by TÜV Rheinland as compliant with the IEC 62443-4-1 standard, which specifies the process requirements for secure development of industrial products.
Renesas continues to develop safe and secure products for its customers. ISO/SAE 21434:2021 certification is the latest addition to Renesas’ achievements, following the company’s long history of ISO 26262 compliance on automotive MCUs and SoCs. Customers can be confident that when using Renesas MCUs and SoCs for next-generation automotive systems, they are complying with international standards in product cyber security and functional safety.
