VDSL2 line driver in 4mm x 5mm QFN package is a first says Intersil
Intersil has introduced the ISL1539, the latest addition to its family of line drivers featuring low power, very small footprint and extremely good linearity. The ISL1539 is the first monolithic, dual port, DSL line driver for 100 Mbps VDSL2 Central Office (CO) applications. The ISL1539 uses proprietary circuitry to achieve low distortion, high capacitance drive and less than 910mW/port total power consumption while delivering 20.5dBm output power in 5-band VDSL2 applications. The driver uses Intersil’s own new high-speed bipolar process technology to extend the performance of ADSL2, ADSL2+ and VDSL2 bandwidth high voltage line drivers.
The The design of the ISL1539, a current mode feedback DSL driver, has been optimised for high slew rate and low distortion in the 25kHz to 17MHz frequency bands. The ability of the driver to operate from power supplies up to 30V allows for use of transformer turns ratios that provide the highest receiver SNR for the central office VDSL2 chipsets. This eases the receiver specification requirements on the VDSL2 analogue front ends and can also increase longer reach data rates.
The ISL1539’s extraordinary performance and small size enable designers to achieve very high port count VDSL2 line cards aimed at IP TV and video on-demand service applications. The dual port drivers are packaged in a tiny 4x5mm QFN package allowing the smallest footprint for VDSL2 applications. Low bias current, ease of use for high density PCB layout and a reduced number of external components provide unmatched performance and footprint features.
Intersil is advancing its leadership in line drivers for the DSL industry. The ISL1539 provides its chipset partners and telecom customers with the enabling performance to achieve the highest data rates in the industry. Intersil is committed to developing new semiconductor processes in support of leading-edge products for low cost ADSL2+ and performance driven VDSL2 applications.
Intersil continues to integrate and simplify the line driver section of the xDSL systems and improve linearity vs. power to extend this technology towards higher and higher data rates.
The ISL1539 is available now in both 24-lead QFN and 24-lead HTSSOP packages.
