Updates for comms system includes ergonomic handset
Military equipment company, Codan Radio Communications, has introduced the Sentry-H, a communications system. It has been specifically designed to deliver the smallest and lightest form factor with 150W RF power, said the company.
It is designed for military base stations, main battle tanks, armoured personnel carriers, marine and soft skinned vehicles. It has a wide 10-35VDC input, and it can be used for all mission configurations, without the need for additional power conversion.
Developed following customer feedback, the communications system features an ergonomic, smart handset with an icon-driven, colour, high resolution, multi-language interface. It uses second-gen, digital voice Tri-Wave Excited Linear Prediction (TWELP) frequency hopping. It is also interoperable with the company's Patrol 2110M Manpack. Updates include channel-based secure interoperability for voice communication and 3G Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) capabilities, for use with the company's Sprint software.
Sprint software provides secure, high performance, HF radio messaging, as well as a gateway to support interchange of phone SMS messages and internet email between the HF and external networks. The software utilises the 3G ALE (STANAG S4538) waveform to support channel linking and transport data between HF radios in the network which provides speed advantages over 2G ALE or other legacy linking protocols.
SprintChat supports text chat, file and email transfer between radios, without the need for a server station. SprintNet additionally allows the radio to be used as a cellular (for SMS) and internet email gateway.
Fast secure linking is provided by the 3G ALE waveform and an optional AES-256 data encryption, allowing for fast, short, secure message exchange.
The interface and chat functionality uses a similar User Interface (UI) to popular messaging applications. Messages up to 250 characters are sent peer-to-peer or can be broadcast to all stations. Multiple messages can be queued, and a time stamped message thread is maintained for each contact for review or export of the contact history.
Every 3G enabled transceiver can be included in a Sprint network, not just those operating a Sprint application. For faster transfer, files and images can be resized by the application. Any standard POP3 e-mail client can be used with the Sprint applications.
