TSTT to Bridge Digital Divide in Trinidad and Tobago with Huawei's WiMAX Solution

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) launched the Caribbean's largest commercial WiMAX network in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago with Huawei's world-class end-to-end WiMAX solution. The entire network will be completed by the beginning of 2011. With the nationwide WiMAX network, all of the islands in the country are able to get access to the Internet and stay connected with the rest of the world. The first phase of the WiMAX network, which has already been launched, covers certain hot spots and provides rich wireless broadband services, such as Internet access for local residents and tourists and video surveillance for enterprise and government users.

As the sole provider, Huawei introduced its industry-leading fourth generation BTS (Base Transceiver Station) in this WiMAX network, which includes cutting-edge features like 4T4R (4 transmitters and 4 receivers) and MIMO (multi-input multi-output), thus assuring high-quality network delivery. Facing complicated network deployment scenarios caused by the country's unique mountainous and insular condition, TSTT chose Huawei to deploy its industry leading end-to-end WiMAX network solution to enable Internet connectivity to the far flung areas of the country.

The advanced WiMAX network of TSTT will provide users with an exceptional wireless broadband experience, even if they are located some distance from a cell site, said Tang Xinhong, President of WiMAX , Huawei. This network will benefit TSTT's end users with unprecedented applications services and promote the society and the nation towards further sustainable development.

Huawei's leading WiMAX solutions are used by over 79 commercial WiMAX networks across Europe, North America, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Middle East, and Africa. Huawei is currently working on WiMAX projects with Clearwire in the United States, BSNL in India, Globe in the Philippines, and MTN in the Middle East and Africa.
