Broadcom has announced that Inspur Group, Shandong Cable Network's primary systems integrator, has selected Broadcom's Ultra HD SoC and Wi-Fi SoC for a new line of 4Kp60 cable STBs. Leveraging Broadcom's latest compression and decoding technology, Inspur's Ultra HD STB delivers fluid 60fps video with vivid 10-bit colour to subscribers at four times the resolution of conventional HD displays.

The promise of a dramatic immersive TV viewing experience is driving increased demand for Ultra HD-capable equipment. Broadcom's HEVC-enabled chipsets provide the compression and higher throughput required by operators and OEMs to rapidly introduce Ultra HD subscriber hardware and content, all while providing seamless quality of service to subscribers.

"The steady rise in the availability of Ultra HD content validates rising demand for Ultra HD in 2015 and beyond," said Rich Nelson, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Broadband & Connectivity Group, Broadcom. "As a pioneer in Ultra HD technology, it's rewarding to provide consumers around the world with the stunning viewing experience enabled by 4kp60 resolution."

"By leveraging the capabilities of Broadcom's latest HEVC-enabled SoC we can provide our customers with the highest quality 4Kp60 Ultra HD experience," added Cui Wei, Vice President, Inspur. "We are proud to be one of the first to deliver an immersive home entertainment experience to millions of subscribers throughout the Shandong province."

"Shandong Cable Network is proud to be one of the first to deploy a 4Kp60 STB based on Broadcom's latest Ultra HD technology," concluded Huang Ping, Deputy General Manager, Shandong Cable Network. "By leveraging Broadcom's latest innovation, we can deliver a significant improvement in the viewing experience for China cable subscribers while maintaining network quality and efficiency."
