Based on Freescale's QorIQ T2080 and T1042 processors, Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) will unveil the XPedite5970 and XPedite6101 modules at the 2014 Freescale Technology Forum. The XPedite5970 is a 3U, OpenVPX REDI module based on the T2080 processor, whilst the XPedite6101 is a conduction-cooled, XMC or PrPMC module based on the T2081, T1042, or T1022 processor.

The XPedite5970 supports up to 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM and delivers a range of I/O options to the backplane, including 10Gb Ethernet, Gen3 PCIe, and Gen2 SRIO. The module includes an XMC or PMC site with 10mm I/O envelope support while maintaining a 0.8" VPX slot pitch, providing users a variety of COTS options for additional I/O, storage, or processing while minimizing total system SWaP-C.

The XPedite6101 supports multiple processor configurations and up to 8GB of DDR3 ECC SDRAM. It also supports a number of high-performance I/O options with a Gen2 PCI Express interface to P15, as well as dual Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, and SATA 3.0 Gb/s interfaces to P16. Both modules offer Wind River VxWorks, Linux, and Green Hills INTEGRITY board support packages.

The integrated Freescale T2080 and T2081 processors act as a SoC, offering eight virtual (four dual-threaded) e6500 cores and supporting an operating frequency of up to 1.8 GHz. Each e6500 core includes the Freescale AltiVec technology-based SIMD engine, providing DSP-level floating-point performance and an inventory of software libraries.

Providing the same performance and capability as the T2080, the T2081 is offered in a smaller package which is pin-compatible with the T1042 and T1022 processors. The T1042 processor provides a lower-power alternative with four e5500 cores running at up to 1.4 GHz, with the T1022 providing the lowest-power option with two e5500 cores running at up to 1.4GHz.

The XPedite6100, an air-cooled, front panel I/O, XMC/PrPMC module will soon be available from X-ES, as well.
