New possibilities for machine and system builders
The SmartWire-DT intelligent wiring and communication system from Eaton has been expanded with the addition of a range of compact IP67 I/O block modules. With these modules machine and system builders can quickly and easily integrate a larger number of sensors and actuators into a SmartWire-DT wiring line.
To help simplify project planning, two design sizes are available that allow up to eight or 16 sensors or actuators to be connected via four or eight M12 connectors. Alongside simple input or output modules, hybrid and freely configurable I/O modules are available. Meanwhile, variants with an additional external power supply can cater for applications requiring greater power requirements.
In addition to 24V outputs with 0.5A, devices with 2A output current are available. These enable actuators, such as valves, to be triggered directly. For added peace of mind, if an external voltage supply fails, the communication connections and status of inputs being used will be retained as the energy supply for this is guaranteed via the SmartWire-DT line. In addition to overload and short circuit alerts, the modules signal the status of the voltage supply.
The type of devices that can be connected to SmartWire-DT within a control cabinet range from command and signal devices, contactors and motor protection switches, modules for fuse monitoring, soft starters, speed starters, frequency converters and fuse switch disconnectors to circuit breakers. Outside the control cabinet, IP67 I/O modules (T-connectors) are available for the connection of individual digital and analogue process signal devices.
With the aid of SmartWire-DT, users can link up to 99 devices, from simple sensors through to complex circuit breakers, distributed over 600 m to a gateway. Currently, this is possible via gateways for Profibus-DP, CANopen, Modbus-TCP, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Powerlink, Ethercat and Sercos III.
