M2M GSM modules from TDC

The latest M2M GSM modules from TDC offer higher performance, lower power consumption and a smaller overall size whilst retaining full software and plug compatibility with the existing modules. The Cinterion TC63i and TC65i modules from TDC are based on a 65nm ARM9 processor. This processor will run all software written for the ARM7 used on the TC63 and TC65, but is faster and draws less power.

For example, the Java Virtual Machine offered on the TC65i now runs three times faster, whilst the device now draws just 1.5mA (DRX9) in sleep mode compared to 3mA previously. The devices are also nearly a third smaller in board area, with a form factor of 34 x 35 mm instead of 34 x 45 mm. All electrical connection positions have been retained however to give plug compatibility with earlier modules.

According to TDC, the Cinterion TC63 and TC65 modules have become the de facto standard for top-class GSM and GPRS communication, offering GPRS Class 12 Quad-Band technology and an integrated TCP/IP stack. The modules are supplied fully type approved, allowing machines using these modules to connect directly to any GSM network in the world. The modules are equipped with standard industrial interfaces including a USB port, serial ports and an I²C bus, to simplify integration into industrial systems. The TC65i is distinguished by the provision of a Java Virtual Machine.

TDC is also offering the LGA variants of these new modules, known as the Cinterion Evolution Platforms. These are the EES3 EDGE module, the EGS5 Java module, the EGS3 offering Advanced GPRS connectivity and the BGS3 offering standard GPRS connectivity.
