Laird Delivers New Intelligent Dual Mode Bluetooth Modules featuring Laird’s smartBASIC programming language
Laird announced the release of the new BT900 Series, intelligent dual-mode modules for classic Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The fully approved, programmable module features Laird’s innovative, event-driven smartBASIC programming language, which significantly reduces OEM development risk and speeds time to market. The BT900 series allows anyone to easily and quickly add wireless capabilities to their embedded device such as a barcode scanner, portable medical device, and more.
What makes the BT900 series truly unique is smartBASIC, an event-driven programming language that enables hostless operation of the module, significantly reducing the overall BOM cost of the OEM product. Laird has extended the field proven implementation of smartBASIC from the popular BL600 and BL620 series of single-mode BLE modules into the new BT900 series. This allows developers the flexibility of utilizing smartBASIC’s Core and wireless Extension functions from the BL600 and BL620 series to create many interchangeable BLE applications between these two product ranges. Key application areas for the BT900 series include industrial cable replacement, medical devices, ePOS terminals and barcode scanners for portable, power-conscious devices, including those powered by batteries.
“Laird is very excited to release the new BT900 series of Classic BT / BLE modules powered by our innovative smartBASIC programming language. The BT900 series represents the culmination of a two year program of investment and development into our Classic Bluetooth and BLE module product lines,” said Jonathan Kaye, Product Director at Laird. “This product series delivers OEMs a fully configurable balance of RF performance, BT / BLE functionality and power consumption to quickly and easily leverage wireless capabilities to their embedded device.”
Without the need for any external processor, a simple smartBASIC application captures the complete end-to-end process of reading, writing, and processing of any data which then uses Classic Bluetooth or BLE to transfer it to or from any Bluetooth device. Ultimately, smartBASIC accelerates initial development, creation of prototypes, and mass production of end devices by providing you with your own Bluetooth expert within the module.
In addition to carrying FCC modular, IC, CE, and MIC approvals, BT900 modules are fully qualified as a Bluetooth product, enabling designers to integrate the modules in devices without the need for further Bluetooth testing. The BT900 low -cost developer’s kit includes software tools which simplify module integration and guarantee the fastest route to market for reliable, portable devices.
