Intelligent Network Controller with Built-in TCP/IP Developed for Home Networking
In response to the emerging network enabled home appliance market as well as the support the increasing number of internet connected industrial products, EPSON Electronics has developed the S1S60000 single-chip network controller. Available from 2001 Electronic Components, the S1S60000 incorporates all of the protocol stack functions and other elements needed to connect household and industrial appliances to a network As protocols required for TCP/IP connectivitiy are processed internally, only simple commands and data need to be sent from the host microcontroller in order to enable TCP/IP communication.
The The device can be used without a host processor by the use of general purpose I/O pins and I2C interface. The device handles common networking protocols e.g. ARP, ICMP, IP, TCP, UDP, HTTP, DHCP, TFTP, SNMP.
In the future, EPSON plans to provide IPv6 support for faster connections and intends to develop an interface module that incorporates the S1S60000 chip.
Expected applications include network enabling and control of home entertainment systems, domestic appliances, home security systems, home energy systems and utility metering and control.
The device operates at 3.3V and is housed in a 100-pin plastic QFP package. Full support, documentation and evaluation boards are available from 2001 Electronic Components.
