Hyundai Reveals Higher Levels Of Smartphone-Car Connectivity
At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Hyundai has revealed its vision of a more connected future by demonstrating how the heightened integration of personal devices (smartphones) and Hyundai vehicles can benefit owners and drivers.
For The smartphone used in Hyundai’s connectivity project can unlock the doors and automatically personalise the vehicle’s settings, including adjusting electric seat and mirror positions, and altering radio station presets, navigation settings, menu appearance and other preferences.
When placed in a specific area of the centre console, the smartphone is charged wirelessly, removing the need for any unsightly cables in the cabin.
The system exclusively, and for the first time in the world, features wireless MirrorLink, which allows the driver to access and use the smartphone’s content using the i30’s 7-inch high-resolution touch screen. The driver or passenger can access the mobile device’s navigation functions, internet-based apps such as email, contacts and phone call lists, and multimedia content such as videos.

The Hyundai app allows owners to remotely connect with their vehicles, checking if the car is locked or unlocked, if windows and sunroof are open or closed and whether or not the vehicle’s lights are on. The Hyundai app also allows customers to view the feed from the rear view camera, a world first among automakers.
So that customers can plan their next journey, the app allows the car’s fuel and oil levels, as well as driving range, to be checked remotely. Fuel consumption of the previous journey can also be viewed.
The app brings further convenience by letting users remotely monitor tyre pressures and cabin temperature, as well as using Google Maps to guide them to their parked vehicle as quickly as possible.
Seungwook Yang, President of Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre, commented, “At Hyundai we’re making personal mobility even more convenient, connected and individualised. This project shows that the integration of smartphones into Hyundai vehicles will provide intuitive, versatile and easy-to-use benefits −perfect for Hyundai drivers on the move.”
