Greenerwave, the French deeptech company specialising in the control of electromagnetic waves, is making significant strides by commercialising its reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) for both public and public-private research laboratories.

By offering RIS solutions in the FR1, FR2, and FR3 bands, Greenerwave is providing a unique resource to advance research in this emerging field and unlock new applications in telecommunications. This move reinforces Greenerwave’s position as a key innovator in European telecommunications. With its low-energy RIS technology, the company is set to play a crucial role in tackling the connectivity challenges of the future, including Industry 4.0, large-scale event networks, and the next generation of low-power B5G and 6G technologies.

Greenerwave’s reconfigurable intelligent surface technology is transforming the telecommunications industry. This innovation offers mobile operators a highly efficient, cost-effective, and high-performance solution. By developing passive repeaters capable of directing wave beams towards connected devices, Greenerwave enables local networks to adapt in real-time to the changing demands for connectivity. These advancements, seen as pivotal for 5G+ and 6G networks, promise improved network coverage while dramatically reducing energy consumption.

Just months after their official launch, Greenerwave is making its RIS 2.0 technology available to the research community. This initiative aims to foster the development of knowledge and expertise that will shape the future of telecommunications, IoT, and network infrastructure. Covering all frequency bands, including FR3, these intelligent surfaces, which can dynamically reconfigure wave propagation, are an ideal tool for research institutes exploring new wireless technologies and applications. Greenerwave remains committed to democratising electromagnetic wave control technologies, strengthening Europe’s leadership in stable, optimised, and energy-efficient telecommunications.

The future of telecommunications, including the emergence of 6G standards and IoT, hinges on increasingly sophisticated connectivity infrastructures. For industries, the adoption of new frequencies for private networks and the reduction of energy consumption in communication systems are becoming critical concerns. Greenerwave aims to be a central player in the telecommunications ecosystem by introducing RIS technology into commercial use cases and future networks.

Greenerwave designs metasurfaces made up of elements that shape electromagnetic waves, allowing for the generation and control of directional beams. These metasurfaces consist of centimetre-sized elements called pixels, which act like micromirrors. Each pixel can modify the phase of the reflected wave, and the interaction between pixels and microwaves is controlled by algorithms based on physics principles. These algorithms direct the waves after reflection. Passive, low-cost, and easy to manufacture, this technology aims to optimise electromagnetic wave use while significantly reducing antenna energy consumption and production costs.
