Gehua Cable Deploys Network Trials Based on Broadcom's Innovative DOCSIS-Based EoC Solution
Broadcom's Standardized Ethernet over Coax Technology Drives High Quality and Cost-Effective Triple-Play Services in China
Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that its DOCSIS-based Ethernet over Coax (EoC) cable architecture has been chosen by Gehua Cable to launch their network trials in Beijing. Broadcom's DOCSIS®-based EoC technology features standardized quality of service (QoS) and interoperability that ensures a high quality TV, internet access and telephone experience that will advance China's drive toward Next Generation Broadcasting (NGB) network convergence. Based on Sumavision's CC8800 series coax media converter (CMC) devices, Broadcom's complete EoC system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution enables Gehua Cable to meet the infrastructure requirements for deploying triple-play services to multi-dwelling units (MDUs) in China.
Playing a key role in driving China's NGB initiative, Broadcom will be demonstrating its innovative DOCSIS-based EoC cable infrastructure solution at this week's China Content Broadcasting Network (CCBN) Exhibition located at the China International Exhibition Center (CIEC), booth #3501, Beijing, China.
Highlights/Key Facts:
* According to Meiqin Fang, Associate Director of BDA Research, the number of internet users in China will grow at a combined annual growth rate of 12 percent from 2010 to 2015 because of attractive services, growing broadband penetration, improved mobile internet technology and more affordable smartphones. Broadcom's complete chipset and software solutions specifically meet the low cost infrastructure requirements to drive broadband services to MDUs in China.
* Gehua Cable operates the broadcasting and cable TV network as well as the reception and transmission of broadcasting and cable TV programs within the Beijing municipal area. The large-scale cable network covers all 16 districts and transmits more than 100 channels to more than 4 million subscribers. Sumavision is a world leading provider of video delivery solutions to broadcast, cable, satellite, Internet, mobile and telco video service as well as digital TV, conditional access system and middleware system with millions of subscribers worldwide. Sumavision provides the most advanced access network solutions for cable operators and is committed to be the largest triple play system integrators in China.
* Broadcom's DOCSIS-based EoC cable architecture is a complete chipset and software solution that includes the CMC as well as DOCSIS 2.0 and 3.0 cable modem and STB system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions. The CMC transitions the DOCSIS customer premise equipment (CPE) from the MDU coaxial network to the Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) fiber network.
o Features TurboQAM® technology that provides a 33 percent improvement over reverse path speeds and a 25 percent improvement over downstream speeds in support of the DOCSIS 3.0 specification.
o Provides advanced ingress and impulse noise mitigation technologies for S-CDMA (synchronous code division multiple access) transmission mode. Broadcom's S-CDMA Ingress Noise Cancellation or SINC technology allows operators to maximize use of the reverse path bandwidth for C-DOCSIS-based applications to deliver reliable, fast interactive services.
o With the addition of DOCSIS-based EoC to Broadcom's Mediation Layer (MLTM) software suite, Chinese service providers can leverage existing and widely available back office systems and tools to rapidly deploy NGB services.
