M/A-COM Technology has announced that Altera’s Stratix V FPGAs are interoperable with MACOM’s 12G-SDI chipset, enabling systems designers to create offerings that support 4k60p video. The solution supports the proposed SMTPE 12G-SDI standard for increasing video throughput by a factor of four over previous connectivity standards, and enables processing on a single card.

Altera Stratix FPGAs and SoCs enable high-performance, state-of-the-art products to be released to market faster, with lower risk and higher productivity. With Arria 10 FPGAs and SoCs, system designers achieve high performance at 20nm offering a one speed-grade performance advantage over competing devices. With MACOM’s 12G-SDI chipset, real estate-constrained customers can access an integrated, high performing solution for their broadcast needs.

MACOM’s 12G-SDI products address advanced video transport applications for manufacturers of next-gen 4/8K video production solutions, including broadcast video routing and production switchers, video distribution amplifiers, video cameras and monitors.

“As the video industry evolves to UHD, MACOM’s 12G-SDI chipset enables 4k60p video using the lowest power, highest density and most economical solution available,” said Ryan Latchman, Vice President, Strategic Marketing & Applications Engineering, High Performance Analog, MACOM. “By collaborating with Altera we can offer customers the ability to efficiently process UHD video with a single link connection rather than multiple 3G-SDI connections.”

“Providing broadcast customers with FPGAs that support the proposed 12G-SDI standard for 4k60p connectivity is a key focus for Altera,” added Umar Mughal, Director, Broadcast Business Unit, Altera. “In showcasing our interoperability with the MACOM 12G-SDI chipset, we are helping systems designers get early access to an end-to-end solution that saves board space and money as they design next-gen broadcast products.”
