Firecomms has announced its comprehensive series of proven RedLink plastic optical fibre (POF) transceivers. These transceivers boast high EMI immunity and robust RF signal isolation, tailored for industrial power electronics applications. Firecomms' RedLink transmitters utilise a reliable resonant cavity light emitting diode (RCLED) with an integrated driver IC, transmitting 650nm red wavelength light over plug-terminated plastic optical fibre to a RedLink receiver.

This receiver incorporates integrated pulse width distortion modulation (PWM) circuitry and push-pull TTL CMOS output, facilitating reliable data transmission rates from DC to 50MBd for distances up to 50 meters. They are compatible with industry communications standards including RS232, RS485, CAN-Bus, ModBus, and PROFIBUS.

The inherently safe visible light from the RCLED requires low operating current, streamlining set-up and testing. Available in both inverting and non-inverting options, the RedLink Series devices function from 5V or 3.3V DC rails with ±10% voltage tolerance, across industrial temperature ranges from -40°C to +85°C.

The RedLink devices come in horizontal, vertical, and 30° angled entry versions, housed in RoHA-compliant, flame retardant (UL 94 V-0) miniature casings.

Bill Morrow, Head of Sales for Firecomms Americas, stated: : "The Firecomms RedLink Series devices are perfectly suited for the networking of industrial high voltage power electronics systems that demand high speed digital signals with strong EMI immunity and superior RF signal isolation. Additionally, the plastic optical fibre connection offers enhanced flexibility, durability, and bend radius for robotic and machine applications requiring movement; and their operational temperature range ensures dependable connectivity in challenging environments such as traction controls."

Firecomms' RedLink POF industrial grade transceivers are designed to provide high voltage isolation and EMI immunity in a variety of applications, including high voltage DC drives, robotics, renewable energy, medical diagnostic equipment, diesel and electric traction, industrial power control systems, and more.

Firecomms will be present at the 2024 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) in Booth #2035 at the Long Beach Convention Center from 25th to 29th February, alongside distributor NAC Semiconductor, a global electronic component, manufacturing design services, and distribution solutions company, also in Booth #2035.
