Embedded PC suits triple digital signage applications
ASRock introduces the powerful NUC Box 3000, fanless, dual-core embedded PC, which is now available in the UK from Display Solutions. With its low power operation and compact size, this semi-industrial unit offers triple monitor support, one supporting 4K display and is suitable for use across a wide range of professional applications, including POS, POI, casino, education and healthcare.
Powered by an Intel Braswell Celeron N3000 processor, the NUC Box 3000 supports dual channel memory with a maximum capacity of 16GB. Equipped with two HDMI ports and a DisplayPort interface, the ASRock embedded PC allows for three independent displays to be driven simultaneously, meeting unique requirements of system integrators. By installing DDR3L memory DIMMs, for example, the NUC Box 3000 can become an extremely cost-competitive solution for achieving 4K playback.
In addition to three USB 3.0 ports, the unit features a compact, reversible USB-C port. The port can be used to provide plenty of power to charge the embedded PC unit, sufficient bandwidth to carry a display signal and fast enough data speeds for normal communications. Other onboard features include a rich set of I/Os, including one GbE LAN, one Kensington Lock, one DC-in (12V) and one audio-out/mic-in. The hyper-speed WiFi 802.11ac also acts as a wireless access point.
“ASRock’s energy-efficient, fanless design of the NUC Box 3000 enables it to be used in dusty or, conversely, medical (dust-free) environments,” says Brendan O’Reilly, Product Manager, Display Solutions. “An additional benefit of eliminating the fan is that the end-equipment will run more quietly. Fans can also be a critical point of failure, operating temperature will rise if the cooling fan breaks, dramatically increasing the chance of hardware failure.”
