Embedded computer targets demanding mobile environments
An embedded computer, which is designed for applications in demanding mobile environments, has been released by Elma Electronic. The S50G-1 features a Cisco-certified routing engine complete with the full suite of mobile routing protocols for network attached equipment on the move.
Combining a rich set of standard I/O and Intel’s 4th gen processing power and graphics support with a ruggedised, compact design, the modular COM Express-based device is particularly suitable for demanding mobile environments in defence, industry, homeland security and agriculture.
The embedded computer, which features SSD storage expandable to 64GB, allows mobile users to quickly establish ad hoc networks as nodes, facilitating communication.
To keep engineering costs low and protect future computing upgrades, the embedded computer utilises industry standard Type 6 COM Express, XMC/PMC and miniPCIe modules. The S50G-1 features a PMC/XMC site, which allows for quick functional requirement changes, and a dual miniPCIe site which enables a wide range of additional I/O. The typical carrier design for high speed XMC I/O signals is eliminated by the company’s mid I/O card.
For maximum transmit and receive ranges in wireless networks, the device provides dual band WiFi connection. Intra-vehicular communication between essential electronic assets on board is enabled by the featured support for CANbus.
SWaP-optimised for space constrained applications, the embedded computer is packaged in a small, sealed and lightweight chassis. The S50G-1 is available in a passive conduction cooled or fanless thermal design.
