DATA MODUL launches the eDM-QMX6 Qseven module
DATA MODUL presents its first in-house developed Qseven module the eDM-QMX6. It supports the in September 2012 released Standard Revision 1.2 which is optimized for dedicated ARM-support with the I/O extension UART and CAN.
It oThis Computer-On-Module (COM) includes with the Freescale i.MX6 ARM Cortex A9 processor family, scalable from 1 to 4 ARM-cores and a high-end-, 3D-capable HD graphic-engine. The Qseven module will be available in three processor-configurations, from the free scale i.MX6 Solo ARM Cortex A9, 1.0GHz, 512kB cache up to the free scale i.MX6 Quad ARM Cortex A9, 1.2GHz, 1MB cache.
The standardization of the ARM-processors has been increased by the new powerful mobile multimedia devices. For that reason we are seeing the development of less application related processors and better defined interfaces. Freescale’s brand-new i.MX6 family is perfect for the module format Qseven. It is providing all known PC-interfaces and the traditional industrial-interfaces on the chip.
Freescale offers, beside the scalability, a long-term availability of minimum 10 years, which makes the processors perfect for ARM-based COMs.
The integrated graphic-core is suitable for multimedia applications with a video-processor-unit (VPU), 2D- and 3D graphics (GPU2D/3D), 4 shaders with up to 200 MT/s (million triangles/second) and a dual stream with 1080p/720p because a graphical interface display port 1.1, HDMI 1.3 and 2 x 24Bit LVDS are onboard. Through LVDS it’s possible to drive panels with a resolution of up to 1920x1200 pixels (WUXGA).
The new panel/touch Interface DUI (DATA MODUL User Interface Connection) offers additionally the option to drive PCAP-touchscreens through the display port. Now it is possible to drive a TFT and a touchscreen with one single standard cable for the first time.
A mass storage up to 16 Gigabyte Solid State Drive (eMMC) for rugged applications is available.
Differential Interfaces like 1x PCI Express 2.0, 1x SATA 2.0, 8 x USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, 1x SDIO, CAN Bus, LPC, I2C, as well as sound are included.
The eDM-QMX6 module is already equipped with the barebox-bootloader (former known as u-boot-v2). Most attention was aimed on the graphic driver (video process unit and image process unit) for the Linux BSP. The standard „test driver“ from Freescale isn’t used. This new driver, based on the latest Linux Mainline Kernel, is capable to get all multimedia functions with the stability of the Mainline Kernel out of the hardware.
Through the USB update concept, multiple TFTs can be configured as „plug and play“. A complete and save update of boot loader, Kernel and file system is possible.
The target markets are in the medical area, home automation, and infotainment. In all manufacturers of industrial devices with human machine interfaces (HMIs).
