IBC 2013 sees VideoFlow launch the newest additions to its DVP series of solutions for delivering live, high quality video over typical internet connections. VideoFlow’s patent pending technology ensures that when providing content over the internet, no packet is lost and also nullifies the jitter caused by transiting the Internet. This therefore, affords teleports, broadcasters and operators the opportunity to use a highly advanced, low cost solution for live, high quality video streams in place of existing, expensive solutions.

The equipment comes as a “Plug and Play” pair, which is a type of Protector that stores the packets until it is definite that they have been correctly received, and a Sentinel which observers the health of the video stream by watching for packet loss and requests packets to be resent from the Protector’s cache only if required. This is guaranteed by VideoFlow’s patents, which cover techniques to minimise the number of packets that have to be resent. This solution allows the bandwidth requirement to be reduced to keep operational costs down compared to the usual solution of using Forward Error Correction that needs additional bandwidth of up to 50% to allow lost data to be recovered, but this is not always a success. VideoFlow’s solution can work with internet connects as slow as 200Kb/s and yet can deliver the ideal quality.
Generally, finest live video channels need a “pair of leased lines”, this is to ensure that there is always a backup in case the first one is not up to scratch. Although this ensures a 24x7 service, it is extremely costly. Reports show that Service Level Agreements that guarantee bitrate and bandwidth as well as limiting packet loss are incredibly costly.
