Control your TV with your voice
Voice-over remote control technology, developed by Texas Instruments, has been selected by Comcast for use in its XFINITY TV remote control. The ZigBee RF4CE wireless MCU integrated within the remote control allows consumers to use voice commands to search for networks and shows, set DVR recordings and receive recommendations.
Enabling reliable operation, the MCU provides non line-of-sight bi-directional communication and link budget. The device features active and sleep current, prolonging the battery life of products. Sample applications are provided by the royalty-free RemoTI RF4CE stack and development platform, enabling the rapid development and deployment of remote control products.
“The voice remote lets XFINITY customers find what they want faster by searching for favourite movies, shows, actors or genres with natural language,” commented Jonathan Palmatier, Vice President, Product Development, Comcast NBC Universal. “TI’s innovative voice over-RF4CE technology enables this experience with a cost-effective and integrated hardware and software solution.”
“The days of pushing buttons to search for shows, access content and controlling the DVR is over as voice control becomes mainstream in the remote control industry,” said Stig Torud, Product Manager, Wireless Connectivity Solutions, TI. “TI is pleased to provide the RF4CE solution powering the technology behind the voice remote from XFINITY.”
