Console server products for enhanced LTE connectivity
A strategic partnership has been launched between Emerson and Cradlepoint to provide 4G/LTE cellular solutions for wireless out-of-band access in conjunction with the Avocent ACS6000 Advanced Console Server product line. The joint product solution is currently available in North America and Europe with limited availability in other regions.
The Avocent ACS6000 serial console server product line provides secure out-of-band (OOB) access to IT infrastructure equipment, such as network switches, servers, storage and power distribution units (PDUs), providing remote troubleshooting and management even when IP networks are down or have not even been provisioned. With product configurations to support connecting 4, 8, 16, 32 and 48 devices per appliance, the Avocent ACS6000 will primarily focus this partnered solution on the distributed and edge computing market segments. Key Cradlepoint feature offerings include GPS, dual-SIMs, Power-over-Ethernet and most importantly, investment protection through software defined radios, which may be reconfigured to meet future business needs.
“Enterprises around the world are quickly learning the power of LTE connectivity to support some of the most data intensive environments. Whether it’s in retail, public safety, transportation, healthcare or education, Cradlepoint’s approach to software defined 4G LTE makes it easy for these businesses to complement, augment and extend their existing primary networks and address ever-increasing demands for always-on connectivity,” said Ed Walton, Vice President of North American Channels and Alliances for Cradlepoint. “We’re pleased to be working with Emerson Network Power, as this new partnership will help bring advanced LTE network capabilities to even more businesses.”
“Bringing together Emerson Network Power and Cradlepoint combines the world leader in critical infrastructure with the proven experts in 4G/LTE routers”, added Jay Wirts, Vice President and General Manager of Core Products for Emerson Network Power. “Given the breadth of our existing product offering of critical infrastructure appliances and thermal solutions and our massive number of deployed solutions, adding Cradlepoint to our solution creates something really powerful and unmatched in the industry and gives our customers the best technology to meet their needs. We have the world’s largest installed base of console server ports, residing in the most data intensive environments around the world. That’s an immense customer base that can now take advantage of adding cellular as a method for their out-of-band access.”
Traditionally, serial console servers connected out-of-band by using classic analogue modem technology, which faces continuing challenges of increasing costs to install new analogue lines and reliability concerns of ageing existing wiring. Wireless 4G/LTE connectivity can now be used as a cost effective, reliable method for remotely troubleshooting problem networks, provisioning new sites or performing remote management tasks. Key to this success is the ability to provide antenna placement flexibility in order to achieve the best signal quality and also easily support multiple carriers in the field to adapt to the needs of the users. Cradlepoint brings these features to the security, reliability and functionality of the Avocent ACS6000 series console server.
