Comtech AHA Corporation (Comtech AHA), a whollyowned subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., today announced the availability of support for the OpenSolaris operating system for its AHA363-PCIe GZIP compression board. This server support includes OpenSolaris specific driver support to allow customers to use the AHA363-PCIe board as the compression engine, rather than software GZIP and/or ZLIB.
This new driver, when combined with the AHA compression accelerator board, can compress both static and dynamic content in real time. Sending compressed Web content saves bandwidth creating a better user experience by reducing download time and link requirements. Compressing content with hardware, rather than software, increases the total throughput handled by the server. Hardware compression through the AHA card is typically ten times faster than equivalent software compression. Storage servers can use hardware compression to decrease their storage footprint and reduce overall data center power consumption.

Comtech AHA’s AHA363-PCIe plug-in adapter card, with data rates of 5.0 gigabits per second, is the only GZIP compression/decompression solution available that offers the high speed performance required by today’s Web servers, networking and storage systems. The AHA GZIP board improves speed and performance for systems requiring both compression and decompression functions. The AHA363-PCIe adapter card is 2 compliant with open standard compression algorithm GZIP – also known as deflate – for the highest performance of any hardware compression solution on the market today.
