Bluetooth Smart module suited for wearable devices

Not just limited to wearable applications, the Bluetooth module can also be used for other small form factor ‘appcessories’ and HID accessories, including slim smartphone or tablet styluses and small advertising beacons.

Ensuring the long battery life necessary for wearable accessories, CSR claim that the CSR1012 is the first solution to support direct connection to a lithium-ion battery without requiring an external regulator. This saves cost, PCB area and quiescent leakage current in the external regulator. The Bluetooth module uses an on-chip switched mode power supply that operates from 1.8V to 4.3V to allow for direct operation from compact lithium polymer batteries.

Designed for high-volume products, the CSR1012 is supplied in a small 32 lead 4x4x0.65mm QFN package with a 0.4mm pitch. With a very small final PCB ensuring that developers can produce compact wearable devices with consumer appeal, space beneath the device means that I/Os can be routed using standard drilled vias.

Based on CSR µEnergy silicon and compatible with the company’s existing software, it is easy for developers to transition from using CSR1010 and CSR1011 solutions. Additionally, CSR offers reference designs with full manufacturing information to help reduce time to market. The CSR1012 is available in volume production now.
