Antenna connectors are 10% smaller than competing designs
Featuring a coaxial termination system which allows the crimping of the centre and outer conductors in one easy step, a series of automotive antenna connectors has been released by Hirose. Providing precise centre conductor positioning and producing consistent, repeatable cable assemblies, the GT21 series allows the cable assembly to be finished without touching the centre conductor.
A precision assembly is delivered by the device in significantly less time. Claimed to be up to 10% smaller than competing designs, the GT21 connectors are designed to save space, significantly reducing the required PCB space. They provide a VSWR of 1.5 maximum (DC to 2.5GHz).
To prevent incomplete locking and provide a secure lock, the GT21 connectors are offered with a reliable, positive lock structure with visual indication and a positive tactile click. Operating from a temperature range of -30 to 105°C, the connectors have a rated current of 1A and a rated voltage of 250VDC, withstanding voltage of 500VAC for one minute. The devices also have an insulation resistance of 100MΩ at 500VDC.
The GT21 connectors, which are available in one to four coaxial contact positions, are offered in a through-hole type (15x8.15x10mm), SMT type (15x8.75x10mm) and an in-line type (27x10.55x12.2mm). A power/coaxial hybrid type, which measures 15.6x12.5x10mm, is also under development and scheduled for release in spring 2015.
