Subsidiary of Southern Company, Southern Telecom (STI), has announced an agreement with Colo Atl to increase its fibre network building access. The new fibre runs to the Colo Atl Meet-Me-Area (MMA) via diverse fibre risers. Southern Telecom now has almost 1,400 dark fibre route miles in the Southeast United States. Metro networks in the central business districts of Atlanta, Ga., Birmingham, Ala., Jacksonville, Fla., and Macon, Ga., offer open access to many carrier hotels, wireless towers and enterprise customers.

Colo Atl, provider of carrier-neutral colocation, data centre and interconnection services, hopes to add even more fibre to its facility over the next year.

“The new fibre build and partnership with Colo Atl will meet growing bandwidth needs and deliver expanded network reach, providing greater value for both our existing customer base, as well as future customers,” stated Barry Navarre, Business Development Manager for Southern Telecom. “As connectivity challenges continue to grow, we will meet these demands by further expanding our fibre footprint within Colo Atl and throughout the region.”

“It is an honour to welcome Southern Telecom to our Colo Atl family,” stated Tim Kiser, Owner and Founder of Colo Atl. “STI’s fibre installation into Colo Atl supports our ongoing mission to increase dark fibre availability and improve connectivity throughout the Southeast. Additionally, STI is able to facilitate easy cross connections to any of our providers with no monthly recurring cross-connect fees within the Colo Atl Meet-Me-Area (MMA).”

Founded in November 2001, Colo Atl provides a reasonable, accommodating and cost-effective interconnection environment for more than 90 local, regional and global network operators. In addition to the Southeast Network Access Point (SNAP), the Colo Atl facility is also home to the Georgia Technology Center (GTC), a test bed and live production facility for network communications equipment.
