6WIND Launches Packet Processing Solution for Mobile Internet, Data Centers and Cloud Computing
6WIND, the industry standard for commercial packet processing solutions, with an established presence in networking and telecom equipment, today announced a new version of its 6WINDGate™ software, with optimized support for the new OCTEON® II processor family from Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), targeted at data center, mobile Internet and cloud computing applications. The 6WINDGate packet processing software enables developers of next-generation multicore Internet infrastructure equipment to minimize their time-to-market, while maximizing the performance, features and stability of their product.
Desi“We are delighted that 6WIND is providing early support for the OCTEON II processor family,” said Rajiv Khemani, vice president and general manager of the Networking and Communications Division at Cavium Networks. “6WIND is an early and strategic member of the CAVIUM PACE ecosystem. We have partnered together for many years to provide highperformance hardware-plus-software solutions for a wide range of applications. We anticipate that the 6WINDGate software will allow our clients worldwide to develop compelling products around the OCTEON II family.”
OEMs that have already deployed the 6WINDGate software in networking, telecom and security equipment based on the earlier OCTEON and OCTEON Plus processors can migrate their software to the new OCTEON II family through a straightforward upgrade of the 6WINDGate engine. All applications already developed for 6WINDGate on OCTEON will run unmodified when moved to 6WINDGate on OCTEON II, allowing OEMs to benefit from the increased performance and energy efficiency of the new platform with minimal porting time and minimal risk.
“6WINDGate accelerates our clients’ software development cycle by more than six months, while allowing them maximize the performance of systems based on high-end multicore processors like the OCTEON II,” said Eric Carmes, CEO of 6WIND. “Many of our existing clients use OCTEON and OCTEON Plus processors in their current networking, telecom and security products. We are thrilled to enable them to take advantage of the new OCTEON II platform in high-end applications such as mobile Internet, data centers and cloud computing.”
